The Court of Appeal has scheduled a further hearing for August 25 to consider the writ petition filed by retired Major General Suresh Sallay, former head of the State Intelligence Service, who was arrested in February under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

The Court of Appeal has fixed August 25 for the next stage of proceedings on a writ petition challenging the arrest and detention of Major General (Retired) Suresh Sallay under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Sallay, who previously headed the State Intelligence Service, was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Department on February 25 on allegations related to the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings. He has remained in detention under a court order.

A bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya and Justice Priyantha Fernando heard the petition and ordered that it be recalled on August 25 for further confirmation of facts, with additional submissions expected at that time. According to Ada Derana, the Deputy Solicitor General Suharshi Herath, appearing for respondents including CID Director Shani Abeysekara, made extensive submissions opposing the petition during proceedings.

Herath informed the court that statements recorded from former CID Deputy Inspector General Prasad Ranasinghe contained details regarding alleged interference with investigations into the Easter Sunday attacks attributed to Sallay. The Deputy Solicitor General requested the court to dismiss the petition without proceeding to a full hearing. The bench's decision to schedule further consideration suggests the court has not yet reached a final determination on the matter.
