The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has arrested two individuals in Gampola on charges related to soliciting and accepting a Rs. 2 million bribe connected to a hospital supply contract.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested two suspects in connection with alleged bribery involving a tender for food supplies to Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for 2027. The arrests occurred near the Gampola Post Office parking area on July 27.

According to CIABOC, the suspects demanded money from a complainant to prevent competitive bidding for the hospital contract. The initial demand was Rs. 3 million, which was subsequently reduced to Rs. 2.5 million before settling at Rs. 2 million. The alleged scheme involved threatening to submit tender applications under the names of the complainant's father and uncle, which would have created competing bids and jeopardized the complainant's chances of securing the contract.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Arunagiri Nadar Logendran, described as a businessman from Gampola, and Logendran Sivarajee. They face charges of soliciting, accepting, and abetting bribery related to the procurement of raw food materials for the hospital. Both suspects are scheduled to appear before the Gampola Magistrate's Court to face the allegations.
