A shipment of 104 metro buses has arrived at Colombo Port, with plans to deploy them across nine routes serving the capital and surrounding areas by month's end.

A fresh batch of 104 metro buses has reached Colombo Port as part of efforts to strengthen public transportation infrastructure in the Western Province. According to Metro Bus Company Chairman U. P. Thilakaratne, the vehicles are designated for deployment across nine routes that connect Colombo with its suburban areas.

The buses are classified as luxury models aimed at enhancing passenger comfort during their journeys. Each bus carries an individual valuation of 42 million rupees, representing a significant investment in the transport sector. The vehicles are expected to commence operations by the end of the following month, pending final preparations and integration into the existing fleet.

The introduction of these buses forms part of a broader initiative to modernize and expand public transportation services across the island's most densely populated region. The move comes amid ongoing discussions about improving mobility infrastructure and reducing congestion in Colombo's metropolitan area.
