The Department of Meteorology has warned of strong winds affecting several provinces and districts due to active south-west monsoonal conditions, with the advisory remaining in effect until tomorrow morning.

The Department of Meteorology has issued an "Amber" weather advisory for strong winds impacting the Northern, North Central, North Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as the Monaragala, Hambantota and Trincomalee districts. The advisory, which took effect on January 1st, will remain active until 11:30 a.m. on January 2nd.

The warning comes as a result of active south-west monsoonal conditions affecting the island. According to the Department of Meteorology, wind speeds of approximately 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected to occur intermittently across the affected regions during this period.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the general public to remain alert and monitor all future advisories as conditions develop. Residents in the warned areas are urged to take necessary precautions and stay informed of any updated weather guidance.
