The food brand Crescent has received recognition at the 31st Sumathi Awards for a television advertisement that depicts a husband preparing a meal for his family, marking a shift in how domestic roles are portrayed in Sri Lankan advertising.

Crescent, a retail brand operated by Norfolk Foods (Pvt) Ltd., has been named 2nd Runner-up for Best Television Commercial at the 31st Sumathi Awards 2026, held recently at Monarch Imperial. The award recognises the brand's efforts in creating advertising content that reflects contemporary family dynamics in Sri Lanka.

The winning commercial departs from conventional portrayals by featuring a husband celebrating his wedding anniversary through cooking a meal for his wife and child. Rather than focusing solely on product features, the advertisement uses this narrative to explore themes of partnership, equality, and shared household responsibilities. The campaign aims to challenge established perceptions about domestic roles while positioning Crescent's meal products as facilitating everyday expressions of care and love.

Created in collaboration with creative agency Watermark Adverts, the commercial represents a deliberate creative choice to centre a father and husband in a kitchen setting. This approach differs from traditional advertising representations and reflects the brand's positioning on evolving social attitudes within Sri Lankan households.

Ameena Ziauddin, President and Managing Director of Norfolk Foods (Pvt) Ltd., stated that the award extends beyond commercial recognition, describing it as validation of a story aligned with the brand's values. She emphasised that the company aims to maintain connections with consumers through narratives rooted in everyday life and capable of prompting broader social discussions.

The Sumathi Awards are regarded as a significant platform in Sri Lanka for recognising excellence in television advertising and creative communications. The recognition positions Crescent's award-winning campaign within the context of advertising that carries social relevance alongside commercial objectives.
