Customs officers at Bandaranaike International Airport have intercepted a shipment from Thailand containing more than 10 kilograms of cannabis-related substances with an estimated street value exceeding Rs. 100 million.

Sri Lanka Customs officials have successfully intercepted a significant drug shipment at Bandaranaike International Airport, uncovering narcotics concealed within an air cargo consignment originating from Thailand. The package arrived on SriLankan Airlines flight UL405 from Bangkok on 24 July and had been declared to authorities as a gift consignment.

The discovery came during an examination of the shipment on 31 July at an airport warehouse. Customs officers, working in the presence of authorized personnel, identified suspicious substances hidden inside metal containers that were packed in polythene bags. Upon detailed inspection, authorities confirmed the presence of cannabis-related narcotic materials.

The total quantity seized amounted to 10.608 kilograms when including packaging materials. The confiscated substances included marijuana, hashish, and hashish oil. According to Customs officials, the street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at approximately Rs. 106.08 million, making this a significant drug interception for the country's law enforcement efforts.
