The Young Women's Muslim Association (YMMA) celebrated its 40th anniversary with the launch of a commemorative book documenting four decades of women's empowerment and community development initiatives.
The Young Women's Muslim Association marked four decades of service with a milestone celebration that brought together members, supporters, and distinguished guests at the Grand Zenith Banquet Hall in Colombo. The centrepiece of the event was the launch of a commemorative book titled 'Our Growing Years', which documents the organisation's journey, achievements, and the contributions of women who have shaped its identity since its establishment in 1986.
The YMMA has focused its efforts on education, welfare, skills development, and community empowerment over the past 40 years, working to increase women's participation in social and national development. The anniversary celebration reflected on the organisation's evolving role in society and its commitment to supporting both women and children within communities. Under the leadership of YMMA President Fawaza Thaha, the event honoured the legacy built by generations of dedicated volunteers.
The gathering included high-profile attendees such as Malaysian Ambassador to Sri Lanka Badli Hisham Adam, former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Pakistan and Iran Mohammed Shaheed, and various representatives from diplomatic, business, legal, and media sectors. The ambassador highlighted the importance of cooperation and people-to-people ties between nations. The programme featured tributes to long-serving members, a ceremonial cake-cutting, and a musical performance by Mueena Baig.
Looking forward, the YMMA reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its mission of empowering Muslim women and children through education, leadership development, and social welfare initiatives. The organisation stated that its story continues to evolve with each new generation of women who join its efforts to serve communities.
