The rupee has appreciated against the US dollar across major Sri Lankan commercial banks, with most institutions recording slight decreases in both buying and selling rates on August 28.
The Sri Lankan rupee continued its upward movement against the US dollar on Thursday, with most major commercial banks reporting marginal improvements in the local currency's position. The dollar selling rate remained relatively stable at around Rs. 332, though individual banks showed minor variations in their quoted rates.
Among the institutions tracked, Seylan Bank maintained unchanged rates with a buying rate of Rs. 324.35 and a selling rate of Rs. 333.60. However, most other banks recorded slight declines in both buying and selling rates compared to the previous trading day. NDB Bank reported a decrease of 50 basis points on both sides, with the buying rate falling from Rs. 324.00 to Rs. 323.50 and the selling rate from Rs. 333.00 to Rs. 332.50. People's Bank saw comparable movements, with reductions of approximately 50 basis points across both rates.
Commercial Bank and Sampath Bank also recorded modest downward adjustments. Commercial Bank's buying rate decreased by 25 basis points to Rs. 322.35, while Sampath Bank saw a 50 basis point reduction in its buying rate to Rs. 324.00. These changes reflect a broader trend of rupee appreciation observed across the banking sector on the day, though the movements were incremental rather than dramatic.
