Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya presented certificates and financial grants to 75 university students with disabilities at an event in Jaffna, reiterating the government's commitment to ensuring equal rights and opportunities for all citizens.

The Government is working to ensure equal rights and opportunities for all citizens, with no one left behind, according to Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya. The Prime Minister made these remarks while attending the "Sarasavi Dhiriyo Abhiman" programme in Jaffna today, which was organized by the President's Fund to recognize university students with disabilities.

During the event held at the Jaffna District Secretariat auditorium, 75 university students with disabilities studying across the Northern Province received certificates of recognition along with financial grants of Rs. 100,000 each. The Prime Minister acknowledged the significant barriers these students have overcome, noting that many in the Northern and Eastern Provinces have disabilities as a consequence of the region's conflict history.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasized that the students' achievements demonstrated resilience and determination that should serve as an example to other young people in the country. She highlighted recent government initiatives including monthly allowances for students with disabilities from low-income families and a pilot project to provide technological assistance for children with disabilities to support their education.

The Prime Minister also stressed the importance of recognizing the role of parents, teachers, and supporters in the students' journeys, stating that the government and people of the country would continue to stand behind students with disabilities. The event was attended by the Speaker, Northern Province Governor, several ministers, Members of Parliament, and university officials.
