Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated a 100-week campaign called 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan' aimed at combating substance abuse among young people and building a drug-free society.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a comprehensive anti-drug campaign on Sunday, emphasizing that India's youth must remain free from substance abuse to help the nation achieve developed status. According to Ada Derana's reporting, Modi stated that maintaining mental and physical fitness among young people is essential for building what he termed a 'Viksit Bharat' or developed India. The campaign extends beyond individual youth to encompass families, communities, and society at large.

The initiative, formally titled 'Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan', was launched virtually with participation from numerous young representatives described as part of Generation Z. The timing comes shortly after widespread student-led protests across Delhi and other Indian cities demanding reforms to the public examination system. Through the campaign, the government aims to inspire youth to reject drug use while encouraging them to serve as agents of positive social transformation within their own communities.

The programme will operate as a 100-week 'Jan Bhagidari' (public participation) campaign, with organized activities scheduled every Sunday throughout the country. According to the sources, planned activities encompass a diverse range of initiatives including sports competitions, walking campaigns, meditation programmes, cultural events, awareness drives, street theatre performances, discussion forums, art contests and community programmes. These varied approaches aim to reach different segments of society and maintain sustained public engagement in the effort to create a drug-free nation.

Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Mansukh Mandaviya noted that this campaign builds upon the earlier 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan' launched in 2020, reflecting Modi's long-standing commitment to addressing substance abuse across India.
