A 26-year-old Tamil Nadu batter has been fined INR 100,000 by the BCCI's Anti-Corruption unit after being caught texting during a domestic cricket match, avoiding a potential two-year suspension.

A Tamil Nadu cricket player has received a financial penalty rather than a lengthy ban following an incident in which he used his mobile phone to send text messages to his girlfriend during a Tamil Nadu Premier League fixture. The BCCI's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit imposed the INR 100,000 fine on the 26-year-old left-handed batter for breaching the Players and Match Officials Area protocol, according to reports from PTI.

While the player's identity remains undisclosed due to an ongoing investigation, cricket officials confirmed he is a left-handed batter who recorded two half-centuries for Tamil Nadu during the previous Ranji Trophy season. Officials from the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association indicated that the incident involved the unauthorised use of a mobile device within the restricted area during active play.

The breach was treated as a protocol violation rather than a corruption-related matter, as no allegations of match-fixing or improper conduct were identified. According to reports, authorities had initially deliberated imposing a two-year suspension on the player. However, given the circumstances of the offence and the absence of any corruption component, the governing body opted for a monetary sanction instead. The decision reflects the BCCI's approach to distinguishing between protocol breaches and more serious integrity violations in domestic cricket.
