The National Livestock Development Board has achieved a net profit of Rs. 300 million during the first six months of 2026, driven by increased production and improved resource management across its operations.

The National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) has recorded a net profit of Rs. 300 million in the first half of 2026, according to Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lal Kantha. The state-owned institution attributes its improved financial performance to expanded agricultural production and more efficient use of its resources.

The board's growth strategy has centered on several key initiatives. These include expanding grass and maize cultivation to boost milk production, activating previously underutilized resources to generate revenue, and introducing value-added products and new ventures. The NLDB's breeding poultry farms have emerged as the primary profit driver, with facilities at Karandagolla, Miriswatta, and Mawatta contributing substantially to the results.

Beyond profitability, the board has undertaken market stabilization efforts. When poultry prices surged, the NLDB intervened in the market to help moderate prices and protect consumers from steep increases. Minister Lal Kantha characterized the results as evidence that state institutions can achieve commercial viability through sound management practices, strategic planning, and dedicated personnel commitment.
