Sri Lanka's Parliament will convene from August 18-21 for a full week of legislative business, featuring debates on trade regulations, employment laws, and private member bills.
Parliament is set to hold sessions over four consecutive days beginning August 18, according to Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera. The Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, has approved the agenda for the sitting week.
Each day will follow a structured timetable, with Parliamentary business commencing at 9:30 a.m. and Oral Questions scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Questions under Standing Order 27(2) will be addressed between 11:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. The substantive debates and legislative work will occupy the afternoon sessions from 11:30 a.m. onwards.
On the opening day, August 18, lawmakers will debate regulations published under the Imports and Exports (Control) Act. The same day will also see the Second Reading of the National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka (Incorporation) Bill, a Private Member's Bill that will be referred to the Legislative Standing Committee. August 19 brings a Resolution debate under the Finance Act, while August 20 focuses on the Second Reading of the Employment of Women, Young Persons and Children (Amendment) Bill. The session concludes on August 21 with a Government-moved Adjournment Motion. Opposition Adjournment Motions are scheduled for multiple days throughout the week.
