The Prajashakthi programme has progressed substantially in 2026, with nearly 23,000 projects now operational across Sri Lanka, according to a statement from the President's Media Division. The initiative has drawn Rs. 23 billion from the Rs. 25 billion budgeted for the scheme, leaving a relatively small portion of the allocation unspent. Officials anticipate that all remaining projects will reach completion by the conclusion of this year.
A progress review meeting convened at the Presidential Secretariat examined the programme's performance throughout 2026 and outlined planning for the coming year. The review was overseen by Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Dr. Upali Pannilage alongside Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
The Prajashakthi programme forms part of the government's broader development strategy, with stated objectives centred on poverty reduction, community strengthening, and the promotion of economic justice across the nation. The scale of implementation, measured by the number of projects and financial commitment, represents a significant intervention in rural and community-based development initiatives.
