Kehelbaddara Padme, an organized crime gang member arrested in Indonesia last month, has been remanded in custody until September 3 following his appearance in the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.
Kehelbaddara Padme appeared before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court on August 25, where he was remanded until September 3. Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama issued the order following proceedings conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which had custody of the suspect.
Padme was arrested in Indonesia on August 8, 2025, during a joint operation involving the Sri Lanka Police and Indonesian authorities. He was subsequently repatriated to Sri Lanka on August 31, 2025, and taken into CID custody upon his return. Following his arrival, the suspect underwent interrogation by investigators.
The remand extension allows investigators additional time to pursue their inquiry into the case. Padme's detention will now remain in force until the next scheduled court appearance on September 3.
