Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya participated in the official launch of a biographical book about Democratic Left Front leader Vasudeva Nanayakkara at BMICH on Friday, with several senior political figures in attendance.
A book titled "Rathuwewi Mihimadala," chronicling the life and political journey of Vasudeva Nanayakkara, the leader of the Democratic Left Front, was formally launched on Friday at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo. Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya was among the prominent attendees at the event, which also drew members of the Maha Sangha, Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara, former President Maithripala Sirisena, and former parliamentary speakers Karu Jayasuriya and Chamal Rajapaksa.
Following the ceremony, the Prime Minister spoke to media representatives about Nanayakkara's place in Sri Lankan political history. Amarasuriya described him as an important figure in left-wing politics, acknowledging that although the left movement had multiple influential personalities, they collectively shaped the nation's development. She noted that while there were areas of political agreement and disagreement between herself and Nanayakkara, she held considerable respect for his contributions to left-wing political discourse in the country.
Amarasuriya further recalled her parliamentary experience beginning in 2020, when she and Nanayakkara served together in Parliament. She mentioned that conversations with Nanayakkara during this period covered significant moments and interesting anecdotes from his political career, some of which she suggested may have been incorporated into the biographical work. The event brought together family members, party associates, and friends of Nanayakkara to commemorate the publication.
