Sri Lanka's Parliament will debate a supplementary estimate tomorrow to allocate Rs. 7.5 billion for purchasing paddy during the 2026 Yala season, sourced from unutilized agricultural ministry funds.
Parliament's Committee on Parliamentary Business has scheduled a debate on a supplementary estimate seeking Rs. 7.5 billion in funding for paddy purchases during the 2026 Yala cultivation season. The discussion is set to take place tomorrow between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., according to the Department of Communication of Parliament.
The proposed allocation will be drawn from funds initially earmarked for the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation that are expected to remain unspent during the current year. Rather than returning these unutilized funds, the government intends to redirect them toward purchasing paddy from farmers during the upcoming season.
Following the supplementary estimate debate, Parliament will proceed with discussion of an Adjournment Motion presented by the Government, scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Committee on Parliamentary Business, chaired by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, made these scheduling decisions during its meeting today.
