The decision was announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following a directive from President Anura Kumara Disanayaka.
The President expressed deep condolences to the Nepalese government and people, particularly to families affected by the disaster. In his statement, Disanayaka emphasised the historical friendship between the two nations and underscored Sri Lanka's commitment to standing with Nepal during this crisis. The financial contribution is intended to support immediate relief operations and humanitarian assistance for affected communities.
On Thursday morning, Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath held discussions with his Nepalese counterpart Shisir Khanal to formally convey the country's support and solidarity. During the conversation, Herath reiterated Sri Lanka's condolences and pledged continued engagement with Nepal's government in relief and recovery efforts.
The Sri Lankan government indicated that it would maintain close coordination with Nepal and explore additional avenues through which it could contribute to ongoing recovery operations. This humanitarian gesture reflects the diplomatic ties between the two South Asian nations.
