President Anura Kumara Dissanayake joined thousands of devotees and spectators at the concluding Randoli Perahera procession of the annual Esala Perahera festival at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy on Wednesday evening.
The final Randoli Perahera of this year's Esala Perahera festival proceeded through the streets of Kandy on Wednesday night, drawing President Anura Kumara Dissanayake as a prominent attendee. According to a statement from the President's Media Division, the procession attracted large crowds of both devotees and spectators witnessing the historic religious observance.
Among the notable officials present at the event were several senior government figures and security representatives. These included Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs Dr Hiniduma Sunil Senevi, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation K.D. Lalkantha, and Central Province Governor Dr Harsha Suranga. Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retired), who serves as Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, and Inspector General of Police Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasuriya were also in attendance.
The event featured international participation, with foreign Ambassadors and senior representatives from Sri Lanka's security forces among those witnessing the procession. The Randoli Perahera, which marks the final day of the ten-day Esala Perahera festival at the sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa temple, remains one of the country's most significant religious and cultural celebrations.
