A series of traffic incidents across different regions of Sri Lanka has resulted in three deaths and 19 injuries, with police investigations ongoing into the circumstances of each accident.
Three people have died and 19 others sustained injuries in separate road accidents reported from multiple locations across the country on the same day, according to police statements.
The deadliest incident occurred on the Trincomalee-Batticaloa Road near the 97th kilometre marker, where two motorcyclists collided with a tipper truck. Police identified the victims as residents of Muthur aged 19 and 22. In a separate fatal collision along the Batticaloa-Kalmunai Road in the Thalavattuwan area, a 39-year-old man from Polonnaruwa was killed when a cab suddenly veered off the road and struck an iron pole that supported signage for a lottery sales booth and an adjacent shop. A person present inside the lottery booth at the time of the impact was injured and transferred to Kalmunai Hospital for medical care.
The third major incident involved a collision between a private bus and a state-operated Sri Lanka Transport Board vehicle in the Karadupana area of Kegalle during the early morning hours. This accident resulted in 18 people being injured. Police have initiated investigations into all three accidents to determine the underlying causes and any factors that may have contributed to the collisions.
