American golfer Matt Gogel has been suspended for six months by the PGA Tour for placing recreational wagers on golf tournaments, though he did not bet on events in which he participated.
The PGA Tour has suspended Matt Gogel, a 55-year-old golfer competing on the PGA Tour Champions circuit for players aged 50 and above, for a period of six months beginning 23 August and extending through 22 February 2027.
Gogel admitted to unknowingly breaching PGA Tour regulations by placing what he described as small recreational bets during 2024 and 2025. The golfer emphasized that he did not wager on tournaments in which he was competing. In a statement, Gogel said he had made an honest mistake and expressed commitment to returning to competition, stating he looked forward to playing on the PGA Tour Champions in 2027.
The suspension comes after Gogel competed in 18 PGA Tour Champions events during 2026, recording two top-ten finishes. His most recent appearance was at the Rogers Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta, where he finished tied for 30th place prior to the suspension being announced. Over his career on the Champions circuit, Gogel has accumulated prize money exceeding $760,000.
Gogel's professional career has spanned decades, with his most notable achievement being a victory at the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 2002, which represents his only win across 179 starts on the PGA Tour.
