Sri Lanka Police has restored its computerized system for processing Police Clearance Certificates following a temporary failure on August 20, though applicants who submitted forms that day must reapply.
The Sri Lanka Police has successfully restored its online platform for Police Clearance Certificate applications after the system went offline earlier this week. According to the Police Media Division, the computerized data system operated by the Clearance Division at Police Headquarters in Battaramulla ceased functioning at 12:50 p.m. on August 20, 2026. The Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka was notified, and technical measures were implemented to bring the system back online.
Applicants can now resume submitting applications through the usual online channels. However, those who filed applications on the day of the outage face additional steps. The Police Media Division stated that all applications submitted on August 20 were automatically removed from the system and will need to be resubmitted. Individuals affected by this data loss should complete a fresh application through the online portal to proceed with their certificate request.
The police authority has addressed financial concerns related to the system failure. Payment fees of Rs. 5,100 that were charged for unsuccessful applications submitted on August 20 will be refunded to the original credit cards used for payment. Once new applications are submitted, the standard process of obtaining relevant reports and issuing certificates will commence as normal.
