President Anura Kumara Dissanayake received credentials from eleven newly appointed ambassadors and high commissioners representing countries across the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe at a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat.
A formal credential presentation ceremony took place on Tuesday at the Presidential Secretariat, where eleven newly appointed diplomatic representatives were officially received by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The envoys represented nations spanning multiple continents: Brazil, Bangladesh, China, Austria, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Ghana, Brunei Darussalam, Sudan, Guyana and Panama.
Among the ambassadors presented were Jorge Geraldo Kadri of Brazil, Wei Huaxiang of China, Dr. Robert Zischg of Austria, and Eric S. Meyer of the United States. The remaining ambassadors included Francisco Manuel Comprés Hernández representing the Dominican Republic, Dr. Mohammed Abdalla Ali Eltom of Sudan, and Nubiela Yanarith Ayala of Panama. High Commissioners presenting credentials were D.M. Salahuddin Mahmud of Bangladesh, Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso of Ghana, Siti Arnyfariza Md Jaini of Brunei Darussalam, and Dharamkumar Seeraj of Guyana.
The diplomatic envoys operate from various bases, including Colombo, New Delhi and Hanoi, with their specific postings depending on their respective missions' operational requirements. The ceremony was attended by Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath and Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake. The formal presentation of credentials marks the official commencement of these representatives' diplomatic assignments in Sri Lanka.
