An 18-year-old Sri Lankan national has been arrested in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, following the death of a 21-year-old Sri Lankan student who was stabbed at a shared residence.
Japanese authorities have apprehended an 18-year-old Sri Lankan national on suspicion of murder after a stabbing incident at a residential address in Nagareyama City, Chiba Prefecture. According to NHK, the incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. on Tuesday, when the suspect allegedly stabbed a 21-year-old Sri Lankan man in the abdomen with a knife. The victim was transported to hospital but subsequently died from his injuries.
Both men were international students who shared accommodation at the same residence. Police stated that the suspect remained at the scene and contacted emergency services following the incident. Upon questioning, the 18-year-old allegedly admitted to carrying out the stabbing. The two men were acquaintances, according to police reports.
During his interview with investigators, the suspect reportedly cited several grievances that prompted his actions, claiming he "snapped" after being called a derogatory term, having his mother insulted, and being punched. Police have not yet clarified the sequence of these events or their direct relationship to the fatal confrontation. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing and the events that led to the altercation.
