Marvel Studios unveiled a major cast announcement at Disney's D23 convention, with Adam Driver set to play villain Mister Sinister in an X-Men film scheduled for May 2028, alongside several other new and returning cast members.
Adam Driver will enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a significant role, having been cast as Mister Sinister in Disney's upcoming X-Men reboot. The announcement came during Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige's presentation at the D23 convention in Anaheim, California on Saturday, with Driver appearing via video message to confirm his involvement. Driver's casting ends years of speculation about which MCU character he might play, with many observers having previously predicted he would take on the role of Magneto.
The X-Men film will feature an ensemble cast including Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Maya Boyd as Storm, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Kit Connor as Cyclops, and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey. Director Jake Schreier is helming the project, with writers Lee Sung-jin and Joanna Calo developing the script. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in May 2028. According to Feige, many of the cast members had only just met one another backstage at the convention.
The X-Men's integration into the MCU became feasible following Disney's 2019 acquisition of Fox's film studio, which held the rights to the franchise. The D23 presentation also showcased other major MCU announcements, including Hugh Jackman's apparent willingness to appear as Wolverine in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film, though his involvement remains unconfirmed.
