Sri Lanka's Department of Meteorology has warned of significant wave heights along the southern coastline, urging maritime communities to exercise caution during ongoing sea conditions.
The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level advisory for elevated wave conditions affecting sea areas along Sri Lanka's southern coast. The warning covers waters extending from Negombo to Pottuvil via Galle, Matara, and Hambantota, with swell waves expected to reach heights between 2.5 and 3.0 meters in these regions.
The coastal zone from Beruwala to Matara, passing through Galle, faces particular risk of wave surge activity, according to the meteorological authority. Such surges near shore areas could pose hazards to vessels and coastal installations.
The Department of Meteorology has advised naval personnel and fishing communities operating in the affected waters to remain vigilant and take appropriate precautions. The advisory emphasizes the importance of monitoring sea conditions closely before and during maritime operations in these areas.
