The Sri Lankan Rupee has appreciated against the US Dollar, with most commercial banks recording lower exchange rates compared to the previous Friday.
The Sri Lankan Rupee continued its upward trajectory against the US Dollar on Monday, as major commercial banks adjusted their exchange rates downward. The US Dollar selling rate remained relatively stable at around Rs. 333, reflecting modest but consistent gains for the local currency over the past week.
Most banks reported decreases in both buying and selling rates. NDB Bank, People's Bank, Commercial Bank of Ceylon, and Sampath Bank all reduced their rates, with declines ranging from 0.25 to 0.50 rupees per dollar. NDB Bank recorded the largest adjustment, with both buying and selling rates dropping by 0.50 rupees. Seylan Bank was the exception, maintaining unchanged rates at Rs. 325.35 for buying and Rs. 334.60 for selling.
The appreciation of the rupee suggests continued strength in the local currency against the dollar. Commercial Bank recorded the lowest buying rate at Rs. 323.10, while Seylan Bank maintained the highest at Rs. 325.35. Selling rates clustered around the Rs. 333 mark across most institutions, indicating relative consistency in interbank pricing.
