Sri Lankan authorities have established a dedicated reporting mechanism to combat the growing distribution of obscene images and AI-generated videos involving children and women through social media platforms.

The Sri Lanka Police have introduced a specialized email address, dir.cid@police.gov.lk, to enable members of the public to report social media groups and pages that distribute explicit photographs and videos of children and women. The initiative addresses what authorities describe as an increasing problem of such content circulating through Facebook groups on the island.

The Computer Crimes Investigation Division has begun identifying and deactivating offending Facebook groups while pursuing legal action against those involved in the distribution network. Police stated that arrests will be made where appropriate, and investigations are ongoing to track individuals responsible for operating these platforms.

In a related development, law enforcement arrested a 21-year-old suspect in Beliatta who was allegedly operating a Facebook group dedicated to sharing obscene material involving children and women. Officers from the Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children and Women seized the suspect's mobile phone as part of their investigation.

The public is encouraged to report such activities either through the dedicated email address or by contacting the Computer Crimes Investigation Division directly at 011 2381058. Police have emphasized that anyone possessing information about individuals engaged in distributing exploitative content should come forward to assist authorities in combating these crimes.
