EthicalX, a global initiative by Clima Trust and SLYCAN Trust, has launched its 2026 cohort and affiliate network, inviting entrepreneurs developing climate-friendly and sustainable solutions to apply. The program aims to address key challenges facing early-stage businesses in Sri Lanka's entrepreneurship ecosystem.
EthicalX has announced the opening of applications for its 2026 cohort, seeking entrepreneurs focused on developing ethical, sustainable, and climate-friendly business solutions. The initiative, jointly led by Clima Trust and SLYCAN Trust, was formally unveiled at an entrepreneurship gathering held in Colombo on August 6, 2026.
The program directly addresses persistent obstacles encountered by early-stage enterprises in Sri Lanka, including limited access to financing and mentorship, weak professional networking channels, insufficient technical expertise, and restricted pathways to market entry. According to Dennis Mombauer, Director of Research and Knowledge Management at Clima Trust, EthicalX seeks to bridge the gap between entrepreneurs and key stakeholders across government, industry, and policy sectors. "By linking practical experience with policy discussions and international collaboration, we hope to contribute to building stronger ecosystems that enable ethical, sustainable, and climate-friendly businesses to grow," Mombauer stated.
The 2026 cohort will prioritize entrepreneurs working in three areas: sustainable food systems, fashion and lifestyle, and creative communication. Selected ventures will receive a comprehensive support package including financial assistance, with lifestyle-focused entrepreneurs receiving additional backing through partnership with c.fuge. The program also emphasizes long-term relationship building and mentorship to help entrepreneurs develop and scale their ideas.
Existing cohort members highlighted the program's impact. Nimasha Perera, co-founder of Star Mushrooms, credited EthicalX with facilitating valuable connections and mentorship that supported her business journey. Similarly, Nilushi Thenuwara of Eastern Soy Products noted that networking opportunities through the initiative led to new collaborations, including work with a chef to develop expanded product lines.
Since its establishment in Sri Lanka in 2022, EthicalX has expanded globally, contributing to broader understanding of how entrepreneurship ecosystems can support climate action.
