Police have arrested five young riders accused of operating motorcycles without helmets and in a dangerous manner near a school in Sammanthurai, with eight motorcycles seized in connection with the incident.
Authorities in the Sammanthurai Police Division have taken action against five motorcyclists following complaints about unsafe riding near Almarjani School. The arrests were made on July 31 after video evidence emerged showing the suspects engaged in reckless motorcycle operation in the vicinity of the school, allegedly harassing children attending tuition classes in the area that evening.
The investigation relied on visual documentation to identify both the riders and their vehicles. Police traced and seized eight motorcycles linked to the incident over a three-day period. The five suspects, all aged between 19 and 21 years old, are residents of the local area.
On August 3, the arrested individuals and the confiscated motorcycles were presented before the Magistrate's Court. According to police statements, investigations continue as authorities work to identify and take legal action against any additional riders involved in the incident.
