The PHU leader has called for fresh legal proceedings against two senior officials in connection with the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, arguing that recent convictions of other officials warrant similar scrutiny of their conduct.

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader Udaya Gammanpila has called for criminal investigations into CID Director Shani Abeysekara and Ministry of Public Security Secretary Ravi Seneviratne, following the recent judicial findings against former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and former IGP Pujith Jayasundara regarding the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

At a media address, Gammanpila argued that if the court found the former defence and police leadership criminally responsible for their failure to act on available intelligence warnings, the same standard should apply to the two senior officials he named. He asserted that both Abeysekara and Seneviratne possessed prior knowledge of investigations related to Easter attacks mastermind Zahran Hashim and were complicit in intelligence and investigative failures preceding the bombings.

According to Gammanpila, a previous inquiry into the two officials' conduct had been suspended following the most recent change of government, and he has demanded that this probe be reinstated. He further recommended that both officials be temporarily suspended from their positions pending the completion of any investigation, citing the need to ensure impartiality in the process.
