The National Innovation Agency has launched its innovation reports for 2025 and 2026, showcasing successful commercialised innovations across Sri Lanka while also announcing the first round of grants under its Innovation Vouchers Programme.
The National Innovation Agency (NIA) unveiled its National Innovation Reports for 2025 and 2026 during a ceremony held in Colombo on Wednesday, with Science and Technology Minister Krishantha Abeysena in attendance. The reports document more than 70 innovations that have progressed from conceptual stages to become commercially viable products, services, technologies and businesses generating measurable economic and social returns.
Operating under the Ministry of Science and Technology, the NIA publishes these annual reports to provide a comprehensive assessment of innovation activity within the country and demonstrate its role in supporting national development objectives. The documentation focuses specifically on innovations that have achieved practical implementation and commercialisation rather than remaining at the research or invention stage.
The launch event also marked a significant milestone for the agency's Innovation Vouchers Programme, which distributed financial grants to 11 successful applicants comprising both individual innovators and research teams. Senior government officials attended the event, including Acting Secretary to the Ministry of Science and Technology Mahesh Gammanpila, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment Rohitha Uduwawala, and NIA Chief Innovation Officer Muditha Senarath Yapa, along with former steering committee members and ministry personnel.
