Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya held talks with Japan International Cooperation Agency Senior Vice President Shohei Hara at Temple Trees, focusing on strengthening bilateral ties and advancing Sri Lanka's development priorities.
Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya received Shohei Hara, Senior Vice President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and his delegation at the official residence Temple Trees on Wednesday. The meeting centered on identifying areas for enhanced cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan, with particular attention to the country's development agenda. Treasury Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma participated in the discussions alongside government officials.
During his visit, Hara engaged with multiple stakeholders including Sanda Ojiambo, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and CEO of the UN Global Compact. These conversations addressed sustainable development frameworks and mechanisms for advancing the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals through collaborative partnerships.
As part of his broader engagement with Sri Lanka, Hara is scheduled to visit communities across the country to assess ongoing development initiatives. Two projects receiving particular attention include a water supply development scheme in Anuradhapura and the establishment of a Doppler Weather Radar Network in Puttalam. JICA indicated that these field visits underscore the organization's commitment to supporting Sri Lanka's sustainable economic growth, institutional resilience, and long-term prosperity through targeted development assistance.
