Sri Lanka Police has activated Interpol Red Notices targeting 93 suspects believed to be hiding abroad, as part of intensified efforts to combat crime and recover illegally acquired assets.
Sri Lanka Police has issued Red Notices through Interpol for 93 wanted suspects currently sheltering overseas in connection with crimes committed in the country. The announcement came during a press briefing on the "Ratama Ekata" national operation held by Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wootler.
The police operation has shown measurable results in recent years. According to the Police Media Spokesman, 38 suspects have been successfully returned to Sri Lanka through Interpol Red Notices during 2024, 2025, and the early months of the current year. Additionally, 35 other prominent criminals have been repatriated through direct action coordinated by the Inspector General of Police.
Beyond apprehension efforts, authorities are pursuing a comprehensive asset recovery program targeting illegally acquired property held by repatriated suspects. Seized assets include vehicles, houses, gold, and land holdings. To facilitate this process, police have frozen properties valued at Rs. 1.49 billion during 2024 and Rs. 1.549 billion in 2025. Since January 1, 2026, legal proceedings have commenced to transfer assets worth Rs. 839 million to state custody, representing the opening phase of what appears to be an ongoing confiscation initiative.
