Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya attended a blessing ceremony at the Munneswaram Sivan Temple in Chilaw on Sunday, marking her participation in the temple's annual festival. The event took place at the historic shrine located in Puttalam District in the North Western Province, where the Prime Minister engaged in special pooja ceremonies dedicated to Lord Shiva and received blessings from temple priests.

The Munneswaram Temple's annual festival runs throughout August and September, centered around the Nikini month. The multi-week celebration encompasses various religious observances including the ceremonial hoisting of the Kap flag, Ganesh Puja rituals, and the traditional fire-walking ceremony. The festival draws a diverse congregation of worshippers from across the country representing Hindu, Buddhist, Catholic and Islamic faith communities.

The Prime Minister's visit was attended by local government representatives, administrative officials, and a significant gathering of devotees from the surrounding area. According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Media Division, the ceremony underscored the inclusive nature of the temple's celebrations, which welcome participants from multiple religious backgrounds.
