State telecom operator SLT-MOBITEL Group recorded double-digit revenue growth and a significant profit increase in the second quarter of 2026, according to financial results released by government officials.
SLT-MOBITEL Group's revenue climbed 11.1% during the second quarter of 2026, with after-tax profit surging 54.4% to exceed Rs. 6.6 billion, according to Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne. The minister attributed the strong performance to stable operations and effective management amid challenging global economic conditions and elevated energy expenses.
The telecommunications provider has maintained a substantial fiscal contribution to the state, having remitted Rs. 33.7 billion to the Treasury through taxation and government levies during 2025. Beyond financial metrics, the Deputy Minister emphasized SLT-MOBITEL's role in expanding digital access across Sri Lanka through infrastructure initiatives including its fibre network expansion, government digital systems, the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable project, and the School Fiberization Programme.
Looking ahead, government officials are positioning the upcoming Sri Lanka AI Week 2026—scheduled for late September through early October—as a platform to advance the nation's ambitions in artificial intelligence technology development.
