The SLT Group achieved significant profitability gains in the first half of 2026, with net profit climbing 54.4% to LKR 6.6 billion as broadband and enterprise services offset mounting operational costs from currency depreciation and inflation.

The SLT Group delivered robust financial results for the first half of 2026, demonstrating resilience amid challenging economic conditions. Consolidated Profit After Tax reached LKR 6.6 billion, representing a 54.4% increase from LKR 4.3 billion in the corresponding period of 2025. This growth was underpinned by an 11.1% expansion in group revenue to LKR 61.3 billion, with particularly strong performance from broadband services across both SLT PLC and Mobitel subsidiaries.

Operating profitability metrics showed even more pronounced improvements, with operating profit surging 34.6% to LKR 10.2 billion and Profit Before Tax advancing 51.4% to LKR 8.6 billion. Group EBITDA expanded 13.7% to LKR 24.1 billion, reflecting the underlying strength of core business operations. However, the company navigated significant external pressures, including a roughly 10% depreciation of the Sri Lankan rupee, inflation exceeding 6%, elevated electricity tariffs, and higher global fuel prices that particularly impacted dollar-denominated costs for imported equipment and repairs.

SLT PLC demonstrated particularly strong momentum, with revenue climbing 10.7% and net profit surging 74.9% to LKR 4.6 billion. Mobitel also sustained growth, with revenue increasing 12.9% to LKR 26.3 billion and net profit accelerating 62% to LKR 1.7 billion. Operating expenses across the group rose 9.6%, a rate comfortably outpaced by revenue growth, indicating effective cost management. The SLT Group's contribution to the government during this period totalled LKR 18.6 billion.

Looking forward, the group is advancing its 5G network expansion and Fibre to the Home rollout initiatives while positioning itself as a driver of Sri Lanka's digital economy. The second quarter mirrored first-quarter momentum, with group revenue rising 11.7% and net profit growing 55.3% to LKR 3.5 billion, suggesting the positive trajectory is being sustained into the latter half of 2026.
