The Sri Lanka Navy has launched a formal investigation into a fast attack craft accident that occurred off Angulana's coast, with 11 personnel rescued and one still missing.
A special board of inquiry has been appointed by the Sri Lanka Navy to investigate the circumstances of an accident involving a Super Dvora Mark III fast attack craft off Angulana. The incident occurred on the 15th, resulting in 11 Navy personnel being rescued from the vessel. Those rescued are receiving medical treatment and remain in stable condition with non-critical health status, according to Navy statements.
Search and rescue operations continue for a Navy officer reported missing from the vessel. The Sri Lanka Air Force has joined the effort by deploying two helicopters—a Mi-17 and a Bell 412—to assist in locating the missing personnel. Rough sea conditions have significantly hampered both the search operations and ongoing salvage efforts in the area.
Simultaneously, a salvage operation to recover the damaged naval craft commenced on the 16th, with Navy divers deployed to the wreck site. The challenging maritime conditions have presented ongoing obstacles to the recovery teams working to retrieve the vessel. The board of inquiry will examine the factors that led to the capsizing as rescue operations proceed.
