Sri Lanka has pledged support to Nepal following devastating floods, with Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath coordinating with Nepalese authorities to identify specific aid requirements.
Sri Lanka has expressed its readiness to provide humanitarian assistance to Nepal following severe flooding that has caused significant loss of life and infrastructure damage across the country. Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath held discussions with Nepal's Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal to assess the situation and coordinate potential relief efforts.
During their telephone conversation, Herath indicated that Sri Lanka's Disaster Management Centres would work in coordination with Nepalese counterparts to determine what specific assistance the affected nation requires. The Foreign Minister emphasized Sri Lanka's commitment to supporting its neighboring country during this crisis, stating that the nation "remains steadfast in its solidarity and commitment to our close friend and neighbour, Nepal."
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also responded to the disaster by expressing condolences to the affected communities and reiterating Sri Lanka's willingness to participate in rescue and clearance operations. The commitment from both the Foreign Ministry and the President's office reflects a coordinated diplomatic response to the emergency situation unfolding in Nepal, where authorities are currently conducting ongoing rescue and relief operations.
