Police have arrested two suspects in relation to a fatal shooting that occurred in Middeniya earlier this month, with investigations revealing their involvement in assisting with the crime.
Law enforcement authorities have made progress in investigating the death of a woman shot in the Middeniya police division on August 12, with two individuals now in custody on suspicion of involvement in the incident.
The first suspect, a 21-year-old from Middeniya, was initially apprehended on August 19 during an operation that also resulted in the seizure of ICE narcotics. Subsequent investigation determined he had played a role in assisting with the murder. He appeared before the Walasmulla Magistrate's Court on August 23, where he was remanded in custody pending further proceedings, with his detention extended until September 2.
Authorities arrested a second suspect the same day—a 24-year-old resident of Middeniya—after the Tangalle Division Crime Investigation Unit linked him to the killing. The individual was transferred to Middeniya Police for continued processing.
The Middeniya Police force maintains an active investigation into the case. Officials have not yet disclosed the identity of the victim or provided additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.
