Sri Lanka welcomed 113,307 tourists during the first 16 days of August, with Indian visitors continuing to dominate arrivals, according to figures from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority.

Sri Lanka's tourism sector maintained steady momentum in early August, with visitor numbers reaching 113,307 during the first 16 days of the month, according to data released by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA).

Indian tourists led arrivals during this period, accounting for nearly a quarter of all visitors. The SLTDA reported that 25,355 Indian nationals arrived in the country, representing approximately 22% of total arrivals. This reinforced India's position as the primary source of tourists to the island. Other significant markets included the United Kingdom, which contributed 12,738 visitors, and France, with 8,106 arrivals.

When examined against year-to-date figures, the tourism recovery appears substantial. From January 1 through August 16, 2026, Sri Lanka had received 1,456,725 tourist arrivals. India's dominance persisted throughout this period, with 363,585 Indian visitors accounting for the largest share of annual tourists. The United Kingdom remained the second-largest source market with 143,139 arrivals over the same timeframe.

These figures suggest a consistent recovery trajectory for Sri Lanka's tourism industry, with traditional source markets continuing to drive visitor numbers to the destination.
