The Consumer Affairs Authority has confiscated nearly Rs. 5 million worth of vehicle spare parts and lubricants from a Kadawatha shop for allegedly violating quality and display standards.
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has taken action against a retail establishment in the Kadawatha-Ganemulla Road area, seizing a substantial inventory of vehicle spare parts and lubricants valued at approximately Rs. 5 million. The operation was conducted by officers from the CAA's Competition Promotion Division following allegations that the shop had been storing and selling products that failed to meet established quality standards.
The raid revealed multiple regulatory violations at the premises located in the Pasal Mawatha area. According to the CAA, the shop owner had breached CAA Orders 85 and 88, which govern product quality and storage requirements. Additionally, the establishment failed to display prices for its merchandise, constituting a separate violation of consumer protection regulations.
Following the seizure, all confiscated items have been secured and sealed. The CAA has collected samples from the stock for comprehensive laboratory testing to determine the extent of non-compliance with quality standards. The authority indicated that investigations into the matter remain ongoing and that legal proceedings will be initiated against both the shop proprietor and other traders involved in the distribution chain. The CAA's action reflects its continued enforcement efforts to protect consumers from substandard automotive products in the local market.
