Nutritional brand CBL Samaposha is distributing 100,000 food packs during this year's five-day Kandy Esala Perahera, maintaining a community support programme that began over two decades ago.
CBL Samaposha has announced plans to provide substantial nutritional support to participants and attendees of the 2026 Kandy Esala Perahera, the sacred annual festival held in Kandy. The brand intends to distribute 20,000 Aggala packs daily throughout the five-day Randoli Perahera period, totalling 100,000 packs, with these refreshments made available around the Sri Dalada Maligawa temple and key surrounding locations.
The company's involvement with the Perahera extends back to 2003, when CBL Samaposha first launched its nutritional support initiative recognising the needs of thousands of devotees and pilgrims travelling long distances for the celebration. Since 2010, the programme has been conducted jointly with the Kandy District Secretariat, a partnership that has enhanced both the reach and coordination of the initiative within the sacred precinct and surrounding areas.
Beyond supporting general devotees, CBL Samaposha plans to distribute approximately 2,000 additional packs daily through the four Devalayas to sustain dancers, performers, and support staff integral to conducting the Perahera. According to Isuru Mendis, Brand Manager of CBL Samaposha, the company views its continued participation as a reflection of commitment to community wellbeing and social responsibility during one of Sri Lanka's most significant cultural and religious occasions.
