A Chinese-made humanoid robot named 'Lightning' has completed a 100-meter sprint in 9.32 seconds during a test run, surpassing Usain Bolt's human world record of 9.58 seconds set in 2009.

A humanoid robot developed by Chinese technology company Honor has achieved a 100-meter sprint time of 9.32 seconds, according to reports from CGTN on Saturday. The robot, called 'Lightning,' reached peak speeds of 14.5 meters per second during the test run conducted ahead of the second World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing.

The performance surpasses Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt's longstanding human record of 9.58 seconds, which was established at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. However, the robot's achievement cannot be directly compared to human athletic records, as World Athletics only recognizes times set by human competitors under official sporting regulations.

Lightning is prepared to compete across multiple events at the upcoming World Humanoid Robot Games, scheduled to run from August 22 to 26 in Beijing. The robot will participate in 100-meter, 400-meter, and 1,500-meter races. Beyond track events, the five-day competition will feature humanoid robots competing in long jump, weightlifting, and table tennis, with teams from around the world showcasing developments in robotics and artificial intelligence technology.
