Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe visited a Sydney-based electric bus manufacturer to examine advanced transport technology and manufacturing capabilities that Sri Lanka seeks to develop domestically.
Sri Lankan Deputy Minister Chathuranga Abeysinghe toured Custom Denning's manufacturing facilities in St Marys, Sydney, to observe electric bus production and zero-emission transport technology. The visit included inspections of both St Marys plants, where he witnessed the Element 2 electric bus being assembled and observed a pantograph fast-charging demonstration. Abeysinghe also took a ride in a completed electric bus during the facility tour.
The visit was led by Custom Denning's Managing Director Scott Dunn and Chief Operating Officer Daniel Bale, with financial controller Niro Bandara also participating. Sri Lanka's Deputy High Commissioner Wishwanath Aponsu accompanied the delegation during the tour.
According to Abeysinghe, the manufacturing operations and technological capabilities demonstrated at the facility represent the type of advanced production environment Sri Lanka aims to establish. He identified several areas of strategic interest, including skilled engineering employment, clean transport solutions, and potential export opportunities for the country's manufacturing sector.
