A shooting in Missaukee County, Michigan on Friday left five people dead, including the suspect. One victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Michigan State Police responded to a shooting call in Missaukee County on Friday morning, discovering a scene that would ultimately claim five lives. Troopers were dispatched around 11:40 a.m. to a residence where they found three people dead and another wounded.
The suspected shooter, identified as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, left the scene before police arrived. During the subsequent manhunt, investigators located a fifth victim at a separate residence. The search concluded when troopers found Hickman's vehicle near a wooded area close to Whitlock Lake, where both Hickman and another person were discovered dead.
One of the victims remained hospitalized in critical condition at the time of the police statement. State police did not immediately release identifying information about the victims, citing ongoing notifications to next-of-kin. Lieutenant Ashley Miller acknowledged the impact of the incident, stating the situation was "heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved."
