Authorities have initiated a Rs. 39.27 million development project to modernize the Wariyapola market grounds with improved facilities and infrastructure.

A foundation stone ceremony was held yesterday for a comprehensive redevelopment initiative aimed at transforming Wariyapola's market grounds into a contemporary commercial hub. The event took place under the direction of Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Namal Karunaratne, who also chairs the Kurunegala District Coordinating Committee.

Financed through the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government's Performance-Based Capital Grants scheme alongside contributions from the Wariyapola Pradeshiya Sabha, the project carries an estimated budget of Rs. 39.27 million. The development will encompass construction of a modern shopping complex featuring new trade stalls designed to accommodate both entrepreneurs and established vendors operating in the area.

Beyond commercial infrastructure, the initiative incorporates several public welfare components including a dedicated waste management system, clean drinking water supply, and enhanced sanitation facilities. Project planners indicate these additions are intended to create a more organized and hygienic environment while improving the overall business conditions and public convenience in the market area.

Authorities have set a completion timeline of seven months for the project. Officials anticipate the modernized facility will reinforce Wariyapola's position as a significant economic center within the North Western Province's commercial landscape.
