Meteorological authorities have issued a heat alert for multiple districts in Sri Lanka's Eastern and North Central provinces, warning of dangerously high temperatures during daytime hours.
A heat alert has been issued for ten districts across eastern and northern Sri Lanka, with authorities warning of elevated temperature conditions during daylight hours. The alert covers areas in the Eastern and North Central provinces, as well as the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu, and Monaragala.
According to NewsWire, the heat index—which measures the temperature as it is felt by the human body—is expected to reach "Caution level" in some locations within these districts. This metric takes into account both air temperature and humidity levels to determine how hot conditions will feel to people exposed to outdoor conditions.
The alert advises residents in affected areas to take appropriate precautions during peak daytime hours when temperatures are likely to be most intense.
