A fire that erupted in the Hurulu Environmental Park Reserve in Habarana on the afternoon of the 23rd has resulted in the destruction of over 100 acres of forest, according to officials. The fire is reported to have started around 2:30 p.m., prompting a rapid response from authorities.
Forest conservation officials have suggested that fires occurring in protected areas such as this reserve are frequently set deliberately by hunters who illegally enter the forest. The Department of Forest Conservation and wildlife officers worked together with local police to bring the fire under control and extinguish it.
Habarana Police confirmed that an investigation is underway, with forest conservation officials and law enforcement jointly examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities are seeking to establish the cause of the fire and identify any individuals responsible for its outbreak. As of now, no arrests have been made related to the incident.
