Several districts across Sri Lanka are experiencing heat at cautionary levels, according to the Department of Meteorology. The affected areas include Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, and Monaragala, where temperature readings have reached concerning thresholds.

Polonnaruwa recorded the highest temperature among monitored stations at 36.9 degrees Celsius. The department has advised those engaged in outdoor activities to take appropriate precautions given the prevailing hot weather conditions.

In response to these conditions, the Department of Meteorology has issued guidance for the public to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Residents are encouraged to obtain adequate rest and maintain proper hydration throughout the day. Additionally, the department has specifically advised citizens to monitor elderly and sick family members, recommending they remain indoors during peak heat hours to minimize health risks associated with prolonged heat exposure.
